Returning in 2021: 964/993 Air-cooled Engine Rebuild Class 102 (Hands-on)

The Hands-On Aircooled Class focuses on the 964 / 993 variant of the Porsche flat 6 engine, but prior models will be covered as a secondary objective. We will build a stock 993 engine during this class, to the long block form. Engine tear-down WILL NOT be performed during this class.

The following topics will be covered during the hands-on class:

  • Engine disassembly and evaluation steps.
  • What to replace during rebuild, what to always throw away
  • Sealants, what has been proven to work.
  • #8 Main bearing installation tips.
  • Intermediate shaft timing and oil pump installation.
  • Engine case through bolt O-ring specifics
  • Cylinders/ pistons/ rings (Inspection, what to use, and why)
  • Cylinder head machining, preparation, what to look for while inspecting
  • Engine valve train assembly order.
  • Proper rocker arm and shaft installation.
  • Mezger cam timing “learn a skill”. This covers all generations of aircooled Mezger engines
  • Engine break in procedures
  • Assembly lubricants
  • Cleaning practices for engine assembly
  • General engine machining/ refinishing

Note: For the Aircooled Engine Hands-on (102) classes, there will be a minimum of 10 sign ups required, or the classes will be cancelled.
